SD-WAN with Secure Session Routing Technology vs. Current SD-WAN or per Packet Routers

SD-WAN technology was not created with Unified Communication Networks in mind. For real-time communications, sub-millisecond per packet rerouting is needed and current SD-WAN technology which uses IPSec tunneling is much too slow. Session Smart™ Routing is uniquely redesigned from the ground up to support modern UC Networks rapidly needing to switch between broadband links such as xDSL, Cable and LTE connections with QoS if you want to replace expensive MPLS. Smart Routers do not use IPSec tunneling. Instead they rely on an ingenious new simple technology called Secure Vector Routing (SVR). This greatly simplifies network routing architecture. It offers SLA based per packet failover and comes with built-in edge security and load balancing. This Zero-Trust security ensures secure connectivity, important for Cloud-based businesses. It does not stop there – you also get up to 700%  improved application performance  with 30% better throughput on voice packets and built in load balancing. These session aware edge routers reflect more closely your business operations, understand source, destination, and directionality of flows, along with the security and QoS requirements of named applications, service topology, and business policies.

When assessing a move to Cloud or SD-WAN vs MPLS, Teraquant’s unique value added services for UC Networks will quickly help simplify the transition. Utilizing Secure Session Routing vs current SD-WAN will simplify your network and quickly improve network capacity and security. Teraquant also understands that Enterprise networks exist to serve evolving and unique business needs. This is why our approach to the solution starts by removing vendor dependencies. What’s New for Telco Carrier SD-WAN

Here are a few examples of the new ways we can help a Teleco Carrier select the right SD-WAN for bringing a UC Network into an enterprise end-user. Teraquant can help you meet your end-customers changing Unified Communication (voice, video and data) network needs. We can help address business driven real-time network needs regardless if the needs are: On premise, UCaaS, multi-cloud, hybrid UCaaS, or adding remote users.

Traditional SD-WAN connects datacenters not UC Networks. They require monolithic network failover rules. They also require that both ends of the wide area connection be be connected via SD-WAN with IPSec.

  • All SD-WAN devices will address issues of traditional WAN and they will enable VoIP traffic.
  • SD-WAN failover is based on failover conditions you set for an IPSec tunnel connection. Automating a move a new ISP connection.
  • Redundant packets and other techniques are supported by most SD-WAN products
  • Traditional SD-WAN does not support Router IP Hopping or setting up Application specific or session based SLA failover conditions
  • Other SD-WAN products do not have built-in security with edge security to support zero trust security needs and it relies on firewalls
  • Traditional SD-WAN does not have built-in load balancing

Traditional SD-WAN

In a modern Unified Communication network the carrier MPLS connections can now be replaced with a SIP Trunk delivered over ISP and/or LTE connection. This is done by utilizing SD-WAN. When you want to connect SD-WAN into a Unified Communication (UC) Network Teraquant recommends using Session Smart™ Routing vs traditional SD-WAN:

  • Unlike all other SD-WAN which use IPSec a 128T Session Smart Router can be utilized as either an SD-WAN or a Standard Router. This is because it does not use tunneling. Instead it uses Secure Vector Routing (SVR) technology.
  • This also means it does not require the use of spoke and hub architecture so it will simplify your network architecture.
  • It will also add new edge capabilities including built-in; edge firewall for zero trust security and built-in load balancing.
  • Since it is session aware and policies can be set based on Application SLA needs it also offers SLA driven failover moving to safe Also it offers SLA

While adding up to 700% better application performance and 30% better connection pipe utilization over traditional SD-WAN.  We will also ensure that your Smart Routers work like a Traditional Router when not used as an SD-WAN for any specific application traffic such as Microsoft 365.

  • Session Smart Router is SD-WAN with Secure Vector Routing (SVR) technology.
  • SVR gives users application specific policy control which enables SLA driven application specific failover criterion
  • Use of SVR technology reduces overhead and increases carrier service pipe utilization by up to 30% for voice packets.
  • SVR improves application performance by up to 700% giving both Communication Service Providers (CSPs) and the end-user customers better application performance.

Traditional SD-WAN from Oracle

SD-WAN for Communication Service Providers (CSPs) and Enterprise End-User Key Features

Zero Trust Security at the Edge plus Privacy

Set security policy per APP using Secure Vector Routing (SVR) technology. Every APP needs a policy setup to enable it to get on the network. No access without a policy.

PRIVACY

Your customers like the privacy and security that https offers for E-commerce and buying off the web. Do you think they’d like the peace-of-mind to know that all their communication is encrypted and totally private from when it leaves their site or branch office to wherever its destination may be?

Regardless if its voice or data, it’s nice to know, everything is by default, totally confidential.

Failover that uniquely supports UC Network needs and is SLA driven

PROBLEM

Different applications need different failover criterion. Voice needs are different than data needs.

IPSec and GRE can take 5–30 seconds to reestablish a new connection and TCP retransmissions cause buffer overflows and multiple packets need to be retransmitted, exacerbating the initial problem. Traditional SD-WAN can manage sessions over your elastic bandwidth but its slow transition adds to packet loss and gives you inferior WAN up-time.

SOLUTION

Session Smart™ Routing with Secure Vector Routing (SVR) technology can be used as an SD-WAN that will deliver predictable application performance for both TCP-based apps and real-time apps like VoIP and videoconferencing. This is true whether it is deployed as an overlay to a hybrid MPLS plus Internet WAN fabric, or as Session Routed SD-WAN using Secure Vector Routing technology for complete internet connections.

This is true whether it is deployed as an overlay to a hybrid MPLS plus Internet WAN fabric, or as Session Routed solution with Internet only connections.

CONSTANT BUILT-IN PERFORMANCE MONITORING

Session Routed SD-WAN with SVR technology constantly measures the quality of all sessions and packet delivery and switches automatically, implementing quality-based load balancing between your multiple WAN links. The result is inferior connections are repaired to deliver Carrier-class service. This often means the difference between (good) listening qualities for voice conversations, manageable TCP retransmissions with zero buffer overflows and optimized throughput.

In a nutshell, this means the most optimized and cost-effective wide area networking with superior uptime.

AUTOMATIC OPTIMIZATION

Session Smart™ Routing offers 30% better throughput on UC Network traffic as it also simplifies network architecture and enables virtualizations.

SD-WAN IS THE NEXT STEP FOR BUSINESS-ORIENTED ROUTING

A traditional router parses every IP header and routes on a per packet basis. This is 45-year old technology and it is very CPU intensive for all router network elements. It creates very long streams of digits that need to be examined in order to route each packet to its destination. Session Routed SD WAN technology routes as fast as an IP Routed switch but it is session based to match all business communication. This means there is perfect synergy between your business imperatives and the new session based routing.

As the world moves to virtualization, silicon chips exist now to process packets at line rate. So you can use flexible software to optimize efficiency, minimize hardware costs and still route-switch at line right up to 100Gbps per interface.

Gain new customers by offering simplified network architecture and offer end-user customers LTE, G5 (wireless) or ISP failover and backup.

EASE OF MANAGEMENT — PROVISIONING AND BUILT-IN SECURITY

Routing rules are written in English not in “Tech-Speak”. Routing rules and the implementation of the policy of your customer is entered in the provisioning system using natural language. No understanding of technical jargon or detailed concepts such as VPNs and ACL or even IP routing is needed. Everything is configured in layman’s terms. You specify simple common sense routing rules in plain language:

              • Where do you want this kind of traffic to go?
              • And who should be able to access it?

For example, in a healthcare center, you may wish doctor’s subnets and nursing stations to access patient medical records. However, you may prefer no one else, even inside the hospital internal network to access this part of the data center.
